This is an inhabited area. A system of chambers divided by partitions, where I step onto tiles, even though I was standing on wooden flooring just a moment ago.
When I look at the bathtub, it seems emptier than ever before, even though there are still a few drops of water at the bottom, as if cataracts had grown on them.
Now, when I feel truly alone, the house comes to life. Every object on either side of the front door moves: the shovel is lifted, the sheet is kicked off, the tap is turned on, and the refrigerator is closed. Day after day, organic matter settles on every horizontal surface, bottles line up next to the trash can, and this solid yet liquid substance continues to accumulate. I turn on the gas in the dark so that only the flame of the stove lights up the room.
We’ve managed to grow into our little nest, I thought, then I went into the room and looked at the bed.
I didn’t stay long.
